Professional Contact Lens Fitting at Foley Vision Center, Amesbury, MA

Contact lenses can give you freedom from glasses while keeping your vision sharp and comfortable — but only if they fit properly. At Foley Vision Center, we specialize in professional contact lens fittings that ensure your lenses are safe, effective, and tailored to your lifestyle. Whether you're trying contacts for the first time or upgrading to a new type, our team makes the process simple and stress-free.

Why a Professional Contact Lens Fitting Matters

A contact lens fitting is much more than choosing a brand or style. Every eye is unique, and lenses must match the shape, size, and health of your eyes to provide clear vision and lasting comfort.

Dr. Foley and our team will complete a thorough fitting assessment:

  • Measure the curvature and diameter of your cornea
  • Assess your tear film and natural eye moisture
  • Review your prescription and vision needs
  • Check for any eye health concerns that may affect lens wear

Why it matters:

  • Poorly fitted lenses can cause redness, irritation, or blurry vision.
  • In some cases, they may even lead to corneal scratches or infections.
  • A professional fitting ensures your lenses are safe, comfortable, and effective.

Your fitting also includes hands-on guidance for inserting, removing, and caring for your lenses. Even small changes in eye shape can affect the fit, which is why buying lenses without a professional exam is never a safe option.

At Foley Vision Center, we take the time to get it right — protecting your eyes while giving you the freedom and confidence of contact lenses.

Types of Contact Lenses We Offer

There's no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to contacts. We'll help you explore the options and choose what works best for your eyes and lifestyle:

  • Soft contact lenses – Comfortable and popular; correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
  • Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses – Allow more oxygen to reach the eye; may provide sharper vision and are sometimes used to slow myopia progression in children.
  • Disposable lenses – Worn for a short time (daily, weekly, or monthly) and then replaced; great for children, teens, or allergy sufferers.
  • Extended wear lenses – Designed for day-and-night use over several days, though regular cleaning is still required.
  • Toric lenses – Specially shaped for patients with astigmatism.
  • Multifocal lenses – Correct both near and distance vision, often used as an alternative to bifocal glasses.
  • Colored lenses – Enhance or change eye color while also correcting vision.

Each lens type has unique benefits and care requirements. We'll help you find the option that strikes the right balance between comfort, safety, and clarity.

How Lifestyle and Vision Needs Shape Your Choice

Your daily habits play a significant role in determining which lenses will feel most comfortable.

  • Computer users: May need lenses designed to reduce dryness caused by screen time.
  • Athletes: Often prefer lenses that stay stable during movement.
  • Allergy sufferers: Using daily disposables can help reduce irritation.
  • Children & teens: May benefit from myopia-control lenses that slow vision changes.
  • Adults with presbyopia: Multifocal lenses can reduce the need for reading glasses.
  • Style seekers: Colored lenses provide both vision correction and a new look.

By considering your lifestyle, prescription, and eye health, we'll recommend lenses that fit seamlessly into your routine.

Advanced Technology for Safer, More Accurate Fittings

Modern contact lens fittings go beyond basic measurements. At Foley Vision Center, we use advanced diagnostic tools to ensure precision and safety:

  • Corneal topography – Creates a detailed map of your cornea's surface.
  • Digital imaging – Detects subtle corneal irregularities.
  • Oxygen flow testing – Ensures your eyes receive enough oxygen through the lens.

These tools enable us to design custom lenses tailored to patients with unique needs, such as irregular corneas or high prescriptions. They also make fittings quicker, more comfortable, and more accurate than ever before.

Proper Care and Maintenance for Healthy Eyes

Even the best lenses won't feel right without proper care. Following your doctor's instructions helps prevent infections and maintain clear vision.

Essential care tips:

  • Wash and dry your hands before handling lenses.
  • Use only approved lens solution — never water.
  • Replace your lenses according to the schedule recommended by your doctor.
  • Remove lenses before sleeping, unless they are specifically designed for overnight wear.
  • Store lenses in a clean case and replace the case every few months.

Improper care can lead to bacterial growth, infections, or discomfort. Our team will show you the best cleaning method for your lens type.

Why Regular Checkups Are Essential

Your eyes and vision can change over time, and so can the way your lenses fit. That's why follow-up visits are just as important as the initial fitting.

What to expect during your checkup:

  • Confirm your lenses are fitting correctly
  • Check for signs of irritation, swelling, or infection
  • Update your prescription if needed
  • Introduce new lens options as technology improves

Many patients don't notice when their lenses stop fitting well — but regular exams catch small issues before they become big problems.

At Foley Vision Center, we recommend annual contact lens exams (or more frequent exams if needed) to maintain your eyes' health and keep your vision sharp.
